Senior Strategic Planner

The Mayor’s new London Plan is an ambitious and far-reaching strategy for the future development of London, setting out how Good Growth will enable London to develop in a sustainable way. The role of Senior Strategic Planner will be central to guiding the London Plan through to adoption and to developing Supplementary Planning Guidance.

Working as part of the London Plan team, this role will focus on the progression of the draft new London Plan and the development of Supplementary Planning Guidance to support the Mayor, boroughs, developers and other partners in the implementation of the new London Plan. The position will work as part of a policy team and focus on design and heritage policy.  The position will start in early January 2020. The role will also assist and advise on the development of Opportunity Area Planning Frameworks and conformity of Local Plans with the London Plan, and will use spatial planning expertise to advise colleagues in the GLA family on the implementation of other Mayoral strategies.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate experience and knowledge of design and heritage spatial planning policies at a senior level. A successful track record in developing planning policy and guidance through research and collaboration will also be important.

While the job description covers a broad range of activities across the Planning service, this role will be based in the London Plan team. In their application, candidates should demonstrate how they meet the technical requirements for Grade 8 and the behavioural competencies set out in the Person Specification.
