Senior Business Engagement Officer x2

This is your opportunity to join the GLA’s Skills and Employment Unit to deliver the London Progression Collaboration (LPC), a new initiative to unlock apprenticeship levy funding and create over 1000 new apprenticeships in the capital.

The LPC will engage and support employers to create apprenticeship opportunities and increase the use of levy funding, including facilitating transfers from levy payers to employers in their sector, supply chain or local community. It is being delivered in partnership with the Institute of Public Policy Research (IPPR)

The GLA is looking for two individuals to join the GLA and support the delivery of the LPC. This will involve leading business engagement activities to support the creation of apprenticeships through working with business, planning and delivering projects and events, developing an expert level of understanding of business needs and key issues, and delivering business-facing campaigns.

The postholders will be required to:

  • Undertake regular engagement with business stakeholders at all levels including corporate c-suite level and with senior officials in government.
  • Actively manage the end-to-end customer journey of a portfolio of employers to increase the take-up of high quality apprenticeships.
  • Engage with employers at senior decision-making level to offer skills consultancy to embed apprenticeships in strategic talent management policy, to support employers to develop sustainable strategies to achieve this, and to offer expertise on navigating the apprenticeship system, including through the identification of appropriate apprenticeships standards.
  • Provide expert advice and consultancy on the apprenticeship levy, helping employers to understand the impact of the levy on their business and how they can invest the levy to support excellent return on investment.
  • Identify, engage and support employers to send and receive levy transfers.

The two advertised posts will be employed in the strategy, policy and relationships team in the Skills and Employment Unit. Applicants are expected to have a good understanding of the apprenticeships system in England and extensive experience and a strong track record in business engagement. The primary objective of the unit is to fulfil the Mayor’s role to promote and deliver skills and employment policy and deliver the manifesto commitments on these policy areas. The unit is also responsible for the management and delivery of the devolved Adult Education Budget (AEB) in London.
