Project Support Officer (Funding Policy &Systems)

This is your opportunity to join the GLA’s Skills and Employment Unit to support the Unit in fulfilling the Mayor’s role to promote and deliver skills and employment policy and deliver the manifesto commitments on these policy areas.  The Unit is also responsible for the management and delivery of the devolved Adult Education Budget (AEB) in London.

You will also be supporting the Unit’s work in preparing for devolution of the 19+ Adult Education Budget (AEB) to the Mayor in 2019/20 and take on responsibility for a range of GLA corporate tasks including coordinating the Team’s input to monthly Mayor’s Question Time meetings and six monthly People’s Question Time events, allocating public correspondence to team members to reply, drafting responses to the more straightforward issues, responding to Freedom of Information requests, and monitoring the fulfilment of manifesto commitments.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to support a number of key workstreams in the Funding Policy and Systems team within the Skills and Employment Unit.

Initially, this will include supporting the team’s work to procure part of the AEB. The GLA launched its AEB Procurement at the end of October and the successful candidate will play an important role in assessing tender submissions from Education and Training Providers.

There will also be scope for supporting other key workstreams such as making grant allocations to providers, programme evaluation and the development of new funding models to ensure that the AEB becomes more outcomes focused.

You will need to be confident in establishing relationships with a range of stakeholders, including officers from government departments, the skills sector, business representative bodies, boroughs and the Mayor’s Office.  You will also need to work accurately with good attention to detail in raising purchase orders via the finance system and producing, maintaining and distributing project documentation. Experience of using Microsoft Office including word-processing, PowerPoint and Excel will be essential in carrying out the range of duties assigned to the role.
