We are looking for a Senior Education Policy and Data Officer to join our busy education and youth team. We’re passionate about improving the lives of young Londoners. This role is fixed term or secondment opportunity initially until the end of October 2020.

London schools are facing many changes and challenges and your policy development and project management skills will focus on the Mayor’s pledge for every child in London having the best possible chance for happiness and success. You will lead policy and programme activity to develop new targeted activity to tackle education disadvantage and support disadvantaged children and young people.
You will need to work strategically across the GLA and with stakeholders to make the best use of data to support delivery of the Mayor’s priorities and programmes. You will have responsibility for defining the role of the GLA in the development of a strategic approach to school places and school effectiveness in London. You will provide professional support and leadership on data, evaluation, research and use of evidence across the team, department and our partners.
The ideal candidate will have strong numeracy and research skills including in statistical quality assurance; good analytical and negotiation skills; and a successful track record of education policy or research development and its evaluation in a complex political environment. Experience of analysing the Department for Education’s National Pupil Database, and other data sets from early years through to 16+, will be advantageous.
You will play a key role in shaping an engaging and compelling vision for how the Mayor will utilise the full range of his influencing, advocacy and convening powers to ensure more equitable and positive outcomes for all children and young people in London. This includes the Mayor’s school recognition (Schools for Success) programme, for schools achieving exceptionally well with low prior attaining pupils.
