Financial and Policy Analyst

Would you like to join a dynamic, multidisciplinary team, supporting the work of the London Assembly to make the capital an even better place to live?

We are looking for a talented individual to join the Assembly Scrutiny Team, providing expert advice to a number of Assembly committees. These cross-party committees are made up of elected politicians who work together to hold the Mayor to account and investigate issues that affect everyday life, such as the budget for London, policing, transport, housing and the environment.

Your core role will be:

·         To identify and analyse financial and performance information, so you will need to be a qualified or part-qualified accountant.

·         To develop a detailed understanding of the Mayor’s £16 billion budget, and how it is spent by organisations like Transport for London and the Metropolitan Police Service.

·         Not only in having an aptitude for dealing with financial information and performance data, you need to be able to explain complex information, both in writing and verbally, to different audiences.

While much of your time is spent supporting and advising colleagues in the team, this role also provides a great opportunity to take the lead. For example, the team’s Financial and Policy Analysts have recently led investigations into funding for the Metropolitan Police Service and the collapse of a major Transport for London signalling project.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with London’s elected politicians to make London a better place. If you think you have the right combination of skills, experience and passion for London politics, we would love to hear from you.

This job is ‘politically restricted’ under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.
