Count Centre Director x 3

On behalf of Mary Harpley in her role as Greater London Returning Officer (GLRO), we are seeking expressions of interest from staff in three important roles managing one of our Mayor of London and London Assembly 2020 election ‘count centres’. As in previous years, three venues: Kensington Olympia, the Excel Centre (Newham) and Alexandra Palace (Haringey) have been confirmed as count centres for the 7 May 2020 elections.  Ballot papers for relevant boroughs will be collated, checked and electronically counted at these venues, and Assembly constituency results announced; ahead of the final announcement at City Hall.

For the 2016 Mayoral and Assembly Elections this role was carried out by senior management team colleagues. We are now widening the field, mindful that more GLA staff are likely to have the requisite experience.  As previously, the role will need to be carried out in addition to existing responsibilities. An honorarium, to be determined, will be made in recognition of this. Obviously, work will come to a head over several days in May 2020 – but there will be significant time commitments ahead of then, including building relationships with the electoral teams of the relevant Boroughs and the suppliers of the various services at the count.

Broad requirements of the role are set out in the attached job description, together with relevant competences. Understanding of/experience in the democratic process and physical organisation of the GLA elections is also highly desirable. In expressing an interest, please set out why you feel you are suited to the role and the experience and capabilities you can offer; no more than two pages is needed.

For more information please read the Job Description and Person Specification.

Please check your line-manager is content for you to take on this role if offered before submitting your application.

To be eligible to apply for this role you must be a GLA employee.

If you would like further information about the role, please contact the GLA’s senior election programme manager Lea Goddard, lea.goddard@london.gov.uk, 0207 084 2705.
