The GLA is looking to recruit an experienced Committee Services Manager to provide leadership and management to the team in the GLA’s Secretariat that supports the London Assembly and its committee meetings.
You would be in the management team at City Hall of the service which provides key clerking support to the London Assembly, Mayor of London, Transport for London, the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority, London Legacy Development Corporation and Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation; it is a dynamic working environment with a great deal of scope for professional development.
You will need: a proven track record of successfully leading teams and successfully managing formal committee meetings in a similar organisation; experience of providing procedural and governance advice to elected politicians and board members, even in challenging circumstances; evidence of implementing and maintaining systems and processes that drive the performance of the teams you have managed; the ability to interpret and apply legislation; awareness of and an interest in current affairs; high-level communication and writing skills, with the ability to see the big picture whilst having a keen eye for detail; excellent organisational skills; the ability to consistently meet demanding deadlines in a pressurised environment.
An understanding of how local authority meetings work and the role of scrutiny in a local authority setting would be advantageous. You must also be able to manage the interface between officers and elected representatives with tact and diplomacy, and have a firm grasp of the use and application of IT systems, hopefully including committee management software.
