The GLA are currently recruiting two vacancies in the Community Sport Team.

Project Officer (Sports Unites)

£43,517 per annum, Grade 8, Fixed Term until December 2022


To provide programme support and to lead and coordinate Sport Unites projects.


We are looking for someone with great stakeholder and project manager skills, who is confident and capable of delivering multiple projects simultaneously. You will need experience and understanding of London’s community sport sector and be skilled in building relationships. Having the ability to think creatively and innovatively about how to use community sport for social outcomes is also highly desirable. Demonstrating the impact of our work is vital so a good understanding of performance and contract management and good grant management practice is required.


Programme Manager

£32,293 per annum (£53,822 FTE), Part time Job share (22.2hrs), Grade 10, Permanent


To lead the development and delivery of the programme, provide strategic oversight of the programme’s constituent projects, and manage cross-cutting programme workstreams.  

We are looking for a strategic thinker with experience designing, delivering, and monitoring complex, multi-stakeholder programmes. You will need to have sound knowledge of the grassroots sport sector in London, a track record working with both community groups and strategic bodies including major funders, and experience managing grant funding initiatives from end-to-end. Bringing people and organisations together and building partnerships that meet the strategic aims of the Sport Unites programme is an essential part of this role, alongside monitoring and evaluating programme performance and using the results and lessons to optimise future delivery and inform funding decisions. 


The team

The Community Sport team sits within the Team London and Community Sport Unit and is part of the wider Community and Skills Directorate within the GLA. It is responsible for delivering the community sport elements of the Mayor’s Sport and Physical Activity Strategy Sport for All of Us.

Sport Unites is the Mayor’s flagship community sport investment programme, it is the main vehicle through which the Mayor’s aims and ambitions for community sport in London are realised.

Community Sport has changed significantly under Sadiq Khan with a major focus on sport as an important mechanism for encouraging social integration.

Through Phase 1 of the Sport Unites programme, the Mayor will invest £8.8m into community sport initiatives between spring 2018 and spring 2021. This investment focuses on four themes; Sport for Social Integration; Active Londoners; Workforce and Capacity Building; and the Young Londoners Fund.

This is an exciting time to join the Community Sport team. You will be part of a team in which you will be supported to do your best work, develop your skills and work on exciting projects, programmes and policies that positively affect Londoners. You will have the chance to engage with and learn from other Policy teams within the GLA, external stakeholders such as London Sport, Sport England, Comic Relief and Laureus Sport for Good. You will be exposed to a dynamic and fast-moving working environment with the opportunity to pilot and test new areas of work.
