Head of Development and Placemaking

The Mayor of London and the Mayor of Newham are embarking on an exciting new chapter in the transformation of the Royal Docks Enterprise Zone and surrounding Opportunity Area, and are seeking a talented and motivated Head of Development and Placemaking to join the newly established Royal Docks Team.

This is an opportunity to play a lead role in a team that will work to create a place which is successful, connected and vibrant, allowing it to compete on an international level. The team is based in the Siemens Crystal in the Royal Docks E16 at the heart of the Royal Docks Opportunity Area.

The Royal Docks, in the London Borough of Newham, presents one of the largest and most exciting regeneration opportunities in London. It is London’s only Enterprise Zone, which means that business rate income collected in the EZ can be retained to accelerate local development and economic growth.

The Mayor of London is a significant landowner in the area and is working directly with development partners to deliver 800,000sq/m of new commercial space and more than 6000 homes. Managing a small development and project management team, you will lead the relationship with these partners and ensure they meet their development obligations.

You will also play a key role in the preparation and implementation of our first five year EZ Detailed Delivery Plan and funding strategy. This will involve designing and delivering ambitious and innovative projects ranging from large pieces of transport infrastructure to high quality public realm, cultural infrastructure, meanwhile uses and economic development activity.

This is a unique opportunity to play a leading role in the creation of an exciting new world class business, cultural and residential district for London.
