This an exciting fixed term contract or secondment opportunity until the end of May 2018 in the Greater London Authority to lead on the emerging thinking, narrative and actions of a new Mayoral vision for children and young people in London. This developing vision includes core areas of education, youth, skills and engagement in relation to young Londoners (0 – 25 years old).
London is a youthful city with many opportunities but also large inequalities in access to social and economic opportunities for children and young people. The vision will therefore address making London great to grow up in, education and skills for life and the creation of safe, healthy neighbourhoods.
High level, internal policy development and negotiation across the GLA group will be required as young Londoners’ life chances will be affected by all the Mayoral statutory strategies and initiatives in development, such as in economic development, skills, health, culture, transport, policing and crime, housing, civil society and diversity and inclusion.
You will drive forward its public consultation with the professional sectors and Londoners, and analyse the feedback and input to write the final narrative and its recommendations to the Mayor for GLA and partnership delivery, and the production of the final document by early May 2018.
Just one of the three main strands that is focused on ‘education and skills for life’ includes themes of:
- Supporting strong leadership
- A good school place for every child
- Attracting, nurturing and keeping great teachers
- Giving children an equal chance in life
- Science is for boys…and girls
- Skills to succeed in a world city.
You will play a key role in shaping an engaging and compelling vision for how the Mayor will utilise the full range of his influencing, advocacy and convening powers to ensure more equitable and positive outcomes for all children and young people in London.
Other responsibilities as part of line managing two senior officers in the Education and Youth team will be overseeing the current Mayoral programmes in support of the London school system.
