Committee Officer

Are you interested in a challenging and diverse governance role in which you will work at the heart of the London Assembly? Do you want to build upon experience of working in a political environment whilst facilitating the scrutiny of important issues which matter to those who visit, live or work in Greater London?

The GLA is looking to recruit a Committee Officer to provide support to high-profile London Assembly committee meetings.

You would be working in the team at City Hall which provides clerking support to the London Assembly, a range of Mayoral Boards, Transport for London, London Legacy Development Corporation and Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation; it is a dynamic working environment with a great deal of scope for professional development.

No two days are the same in this fast-paced environment. You can often read about work you’ve led on in the media on your way home. To thrive, you’ll need to be able to work quickly across a range of issues and relish a challenge.

Working independently, you must be comfortable in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment as well as have a proven track record of successfully managing formal committee meetings in a similar organisation. We want someone who not only ‘gets’ the big picture but sees the small but vital details at the same time. You’ll also have excellent communication skills, and the ability to liaise with senior politicians and senior GLA group staff with tact and diplomacy.

An understanding of how local authority meetings work and the role of scrutiny in a local authority setting would be advantageous. You must have a firm grasp of the use and application of IT systems, ideally including committee management software.

This job is ‘politically restricted’ under the Local Government and Housing Act 1989.

This role is based at City Hall.
