Scrutiny Manager

Regenerate yourself!

Town centre regeneration, economic convergence in east London and the re-development of Brent Cross are just some of the topics the London Assembly’s Regeneration Committee will be looking at over the coming year. Are you interested in working with Assembly Members from across the political spectrum to lead the Committee’s work programme?

The Assembly’s Regeneration Committee is tasked with monitoring the Mayor’s regeneration activity in London and has oversight of the Mayor’s two Development Corporations in the Olympic Park and Old Oak Common – two of the biggest regeneration areas in Europe. There’s no set template for our investigations: their success relies upon your vision and ability to gather robust and credible evidence for the Assembly Members to interrogate existing policy and programmes, and to generate new insights and recommendations. For each investigation, your job is to identify relevant academic work, data and stakeholders to produce a clearly scoped research question. If you like creative thinking, stakeholder engagement and have strong drafting skills, then this job will appeal to you.

We are looking primarily for someone with excellent research and analysis skills and experience of pulling together quantitative and qualitative material to create high quality written outputs. But you will also need astute political handling skills and the ability to reach out to both professional and public audiences to get their input into your work. You don’t have to have experience of working in regeneration, but an interest or background in housing, regeneration or planning would help you hit the ground running.

You will benefit from taking the lead on these and other projects, shaping them to create relevant and topical outputs. You will also gain experience of working with senior politicians from different political parties. You will have the support of an experienced senior manager and a project team of research, committee and communications specialists and it will be your job to motivate and lead them.

London's diversity is its biggest asset and we strive to ensure our workforce reflects this at all levels. We are keen to further the diversity of our team and welcome applications from everyone regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, faith or disability.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and are happy to consider flexible working arrangements. We would welcome applications from candidates who are seeking part time work as this role is open to job share.

In addition to a good salary package, we offer an attractive range of benefits including 30 days’ annual leave, interest free season ticket loan, interest free bicycle loan, childcare voucher scheme and a career average pension scheme.
