You could be helping to shape London’s future, maintaining its global status as one of the greatest cities on the planet to work, live, play and study. The team works very closely with the Mayor and his team to achieve good growth that delivers genuinely affordable housing and all the tools that a thriving city needs.

 

You could be working in one of these exciting teams:

 

Development Management team which deals with the city’s biggest and most high-profile planning applications which include large scale, mixed-use schemes, schools and sports stadia or;

 

The London Plan Growth strategies team plays a key role in shaping London’s growth though the crucial preparations for the upcoming examination in public of the Mayor’s new London Plan and subsequent implementation of the plan. The team works closely with key stakeholders when implementing the plan which includes developing growth strategies for London’s Opportunity Areas.

 

We are currently seeking highly-skilled, proactive and passionate planners to fill a number of vacancies in both our London Plan & Growth Strategies and Development Management Teams within the GLA Planning Unit.  

 

To be successful in these roles you’ll need to be passionate about planning in London with a track record of achievement in a comparable role and have the skills to deal with complex strategic planning issues.  You should have a degree/post graduate qualification in planning or equivalent with eligibility for RTPI membership.  

 

There are seven Senior Planner roles available in the Development Management team:

 

The Development Management roles will involve managing a busy caseload of planning applications that are referred to the Mayor and assessing compliance against the London Plan.  You’ll need to have excellent negotiation skills and ‎the ability to work with a range of stakeholders. You also need to understand how to apply the London Plan and the new London Plan in a pragmatic way to encourage development and deliver the Mayor’s key objectives.  A detailed knowledge and understanding of national and regional planning and development issues, legal processes and policy trends is essential, as is a passion‎ for London as a city and a desire to contribute towards its continued success by delivering the principles of ‘good growth’ through planning.

  

There are three Senior Planner roles available in London Plan and Growth Strategies team:

 

You will be joining the team at a crucial time as we review the consultation responses to the new draft London Plan in preparation for the upcoming EiP. If you have up-to date knowledge and experience specialising in the following areas we would like to hear from you:

 

  • Economy, Town Centres, Retail
  • Culture and Social Infrastructure
  • Infrastructure (waterways, wharves, digital, etc)

 

You will build effective relationships with key stakeholders to ensure borough plans are in conformity with the London Plan and contribute towards delivery of our emerging Growth Strategies workstreams and the implementation of the London Plan. ‎Experience of preparing and implementing policy frameworks and masterplans would also be‎ a benefit.

 

We are looking for flexible and adaptable planners with a can-do attitude and a track record of working on a range of policy areas who share our excitement for delivering the Mayors vision for London's future.  For both teams, you will be presenting directly to the Mayor and Deputy Mayors, so you will need excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience operating within a political context.
