GLA Economics’ analysis and advice informs key investment decisions at the Greater London Authority (GLA).  The GLA requires high quality economic analysis and advice to ensure that the strategies we develop and the projects we deliver are based on sound evidence.  GLA Economics - part of the GLA’s Intelligence Unit - is also an information resource for anyone with an interest in London’s economy, including the capital’s academics, commentators and decision makers.

Bring your knowledge and passion for economics together with your ambition to maintain London’s global standing and you’ll play a key role in informing decisions that affect the lives of all Londoners.

The information and data you’ll work with is often complex.  However, with your clear, analytical approach, you’ll provide high level commentary with ease – communicating complicated ideas in straightforward, accessible ways to suit any audience.

We are now looking for two economists, one permanent and one fixed-term Maternity Cover until 14 May 2019. Both posts will focus on the provision of economic analysis and advice to support the development of policy and strategy here at the GLA. Specifically:

The primary focus of the permanent post is on London’s microeconomy, producing long-run employment projections, analysing London’s labour market, examining economic fairness in London and engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders. The post will also involve econometric modelling work.

The primary focus of the fixed-term post is on appraisal and evaluation. The post holder will be providing advice on appraisal and evaluation of GLA’s policies, programmes and investments and on the development of indicator frameworks of economic performance. He or she will also assist the Supervisory Economist in disseminating best practice in appraisal and evaluation (in line with the Green Book, Magenta Book, Business Case guidance and other government guidance) across the organisation. They will thus act as a subject matter expert in the field of evaluation and cost-benefit analysis theory and practice. They will further conduct objective analysis and meta-analysis of evidence from evaluations, undertake cost benefit analysis, return on investment and unit cost calculations as well as providing information on comparators where applicable.

In addition to their core responsibilities both post holders will have the opportunity to work across the breadth of teams’ remit on selected priority activities/projects.
