Policy and Project Manager (Strategy Team)

We are seeking a Policy and Project Manager to join the GLA’s corporate Strategy Team based in the Strategy and Communications Directorate.  

 

This post would be ideally suited to someone who can master policy areas quicklywrite clearly and convincinglyand speak about policy in an engaging and accessible way to a variety of audiences. You will also have a passion for using evidence-based policy and projects to make a positive difference to London’s communities and the lives of Londoners. 

At the heart of London Government, you will work with the Mayoral, and Senior Leadership teamsand teams across the GLA and GLA Group, to improve the professionalism of City Hall policymaking, and develop, lead and manage high-profile, cross-organisation and cross-cutting projects that are of strategic importance to the capital. 

You will be adept at driving delivery of projects in changing political environments and working in partnership with a range of London’s key stakeholders and anchor institutions on common policy interests. You will relish the opportunity to look for new ways to innovate to maximise positive outcomes for London and deliver value to taxpayers. 

A logical and strategic thinker, you will also play a key role in contributing to the successful delivery of the Mayor’s priorities: Keeping London safe, getting London back on its feet, Green New Deal, opportunities for young people, and affordable housing and physical development. You will lead or commission research and analysis on specific policy issues, undertake scoping, evidence gathering and engagement with GLA teams and external partners to co-design policy solutions to support London’s recovery from Covid-19, and address key challenges facing the capital over the medium and long-term.  

You will use insights from this work to provide strategic advice to the Mayor’s Office, GLA Senior managers, and support policy teams to ensure that delivery is underpinned by robust outcome-focused, implementation plans. Knowledge and experience of delivering policies and projects in one of the three policy areas (housingenvironment or transport) would be desirable.  

You will demonstrate a flair for building and maintaining strong, trustful relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, institutions, communities, and Londoners, ensuring that their views and experiences continually inform City Hall policymaking. This role also requires a flexible and collaborative approach, working across teams within the GLA and GLA Group, and with senior internal stakeholders on multiple initiatives.

This role will be based at London Fire Brigade’s Head Office (Union Street SE1 0LL). 

 

At present GLA staff are working largely from home, with office space available at our offices based at City Hall, More London.  Over the coming weeks and months, we will be moving to hybrid working, linked to our relocation programme. As part of this, you will need to split your time between home working and coming into the office.
