Head of Cultural Programme & Partnerships

We’re unlocking the creative spirit of the Royal Docks. You’ll collaborate with the creative organisations that already call the Royal Docks home and attract many others to develop a cutting edge cultural destination. You’ll inspire our communities and visitors to make the most of the area’s assets — 12 miles of waterfront, diverse landscape, global connections — and help us make the Royal Docks a must see place to visit and stay.

The opportunity

From developing cultural infrastructure, animating key sites and attracting large-scale public events, to fostering community arts participation, your challenge is to position the Royal Docks as a world-class cultural and commercial destination. You’ll achieve this through the strategic development and implementation of a complex, cultural place-making programme. This will include working in partnership with a diverse stakeholder group to attract local, national and international audiences. Your innovative creative programme will go hand in hand with a robust commercial strategy to ensure long term financial sustainability by developing partnerships and sponsorship opportunities.

The person

This role demands both an appreciation of the value of culture to people and places and the ability to plan for the long term financial sustainability of a rich cultural eco-system. You have significant in-depth experience of working in a high-profile organisation at a senior level to manage the delivery of complex cross-organisational projects. This should include the management of politically sensitive strategic programmes and events. Commercial experience is critical: yours should include a track-record in delivering a sponsorship or fundraising income stream and the skills to negotiate and maintain long-term partnerships across multiple assets. Experience of leading multi-disciplinary professional teams is key.
